Hey Fever! 2017
Mark your calendars for Hey Fever! 2017, Ottawa's Contra Dance weekend, on November 3rd to 5th, 2017! That's a week after Halloween. We'll have LOTS of fun, this year with our Dress Up Contra Dance on Saturday night and, of course, there will be TONS OF TERRIFIC DANCING all weekend! Plus the clocks go back on Saturday night! :-)
We have two wonderful bands and two excellent callers lined up for the weekend. In addition to all the great contra dancing, we plan some workshops and some fun themed dance sessions (squares, waltzes, ...).
Registration will open in April or May 2017. This year we will again include the option to purchase the Saturday lunch at registration time. Please check back for further updates on costs, registration, schedule, etc.
The bands are ...
Featuring Aine Schryer-O'Gorman, Zachary Schryer-Lefebvre, Benoit Schryer-Lefebvre, Julie Schryer and Pat O'Gorman
"The O'Schraves" (The O'Gorman/Schryer/ Lefebvre Family) brings you wonderful music that is joyous, skillful, inspiring, and fun.
"The O'Schraves" have played for regular dances in the Algoma region for many years, including dances at AlgomaTrad Family Camp, and have been the dance band for the Bayside Travelers' contra dances in Traverse City, Michigan, the Toronto Country Dancers' Contra Dances, and the Owen Sound Spring Fling Dance weekend. After you've danced to their superb tune-playing and rock-solid groove, you'll Rave about The O'Schraves!

Julie Vallimont & Friends
Featuring Julie Vallimont, Ryan McKasson and another to be announced soon
Julie, a former classical pianist and organist, fell in love with dance music after attending contra dances in Maine and Boston. Her compelling, rhythmic piano style draws on her study of New England contra piano and traditional Quebecois, Irish, and Cape Breton music, along with elements of rock and jazz. Julie performs nationwide with Nor'easter and several other contra and English collaborations. Julie will be leading us in Ottawa with her wonderful music.
Julie will be playing with Ryan McKasson of the Syncopaths. Ryan is a National Scottish fiddle champion and a fantastic fiddler. He and Julie met a few years ago and really hit it off musically. We are in for a treat with this new musical combination!
We'll let you know about the third muscian soon.
The callers are ...
Mary Wesley is a dance leader and caller for contras, squares, morris, and family and community dances. A native of Vermont, she travels throughout New England and beyond to follow and share her love of dance. Mary's friendly enthusiasm will please us no end!
After humble beginnings calling a dance series in college, Dave Eisenstadter has gone on to call some of the largest dances in the contra domain, alongside some of the most talented musicians playing the circuit. Hoping to bring energy to each dance he calls, Dave can often be found dancing along to the music from the stage! We are in for a treat with Dave's calling!
